Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp pulled a mean stunt on us last week.

Honestly, I don’t think it would be bad if they happened more often.
I’m one of those people who wishes we were still in the earlier tech days.
Before everyone had cell phones and we had to connect to the internet via dial up.
Okay, maybe not that far back.
But at least rewind to the part where checking our devices wasn’t the first thing on our minds in the mornings.
Not all hope is lost though.
We can actually incorporate some of those great qualities from the olden days into the lives we live today.
And we should.
So let’s get back to our roots, shall we?
10 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOUR FAVORITE SOCIAL MEDIA APP IS DOWN
1. Take a nap.
Rest your mind, body, and thumbs.
And since we’re approaching the cooler months, it’s the perfect excuse to snuggle under some cozy blankets and catch some zzz’s.
2. Tidy your space.
A little sprucing, never hurt nobody.
Organize: closets, pantries, cabinets, drawers.
Declutter: purses, book bags, junk drawers, night stands.
Deep clean: bathroom, car, garage, fridge.

3. Play a game or do an activity.
I love how creative you can get with these!
Feeling competitive? bring out the card games, board games, and consoles.
Need some space? learn a new language, pamper yourself, complete a wordsearch, or take a personal development class.
Either or? coloring, painting, table puzzles, bowling, or skating.
Give your mind a break and get lost in a good book.
On a budget?
Your local library has tons of free materials (books, ebooks, eaudiobooks, magazines, and more) waiting for you to check them out!
I just started reading again after taking a little break, but here’s what I’ve read so far this year.
Yall already know I’m going to vouch for this anywhere I can.
Grab a pen, notebook, and start writing.

6. Spend quality time with loved ones.
And don’t forget the pets!
There’s nothing like connecting without the distraction of your phone.
The people (and fur babies) around you matter.
Make them feel more important than a post, DM, or meme.
7. Watch a movie/new tv show.
Yet another excuse to crawl under those cozy blankets, but this time, with a remote.
Put on one of your favorites or watch whatever people are currently hyping up from Netflix.
BTW, have you seen Squid Game?
And you’ll feel good, too.
Move your body and relieve some of that stress!
Plus, when other people see you being active, they may be motivated to do the same.
9. Sit outside.
You + outdoors = a breath of fresh air. Literally.
It can be so relaxing to watch the day evolve, listen to the birds or traffic on a nearby street, and just be in nature.
Plus, any of the other activities I mentioned could be done outside as well.
10. Go for a drive.
And take the scenic route.
Music, podcasts, audiobooks, and even silence would be the perfect passenger.
Go somewhere you’ve never been, to the next town over, or even your old neighborhood.
Try to notice all of the things you’d normally skip over and enjoy the view.
Remember, you don’t have to wait for social media to go down to take a break.
You control that.
So challenge yourself to spend more of your time offline, off of your phone, and the good ole days will start to feel like they never left.
